Growing up in a small town on the Chesapeake Bay in Virginia, I first observed how people work. Most people where I’m from worked to live — they didn’t necessarily live to work. But something that everyone in the workforce needs, whether you’re a delivery driver, farmer, physician, or engineer, is a sense of purpose. An employee needs to improve their life through their work, and employers need to grow their business through hiring the right people.
The world of work has always been fascinating to me. Connecting the right talent to the right opportunities can change people’s lives and spur economic growth. Making this ideal a reality has been my mission at Jobs2Careers since I joined the team in 2013, and now I am elated to lead us to the next phase of growth as CEO.
When we reflect on our success so far, we often talk about how we’ve responded to the changing world of work. Being adaptable to the way people search for jobs and what they value in their employment is essential. Businesses like Lyft, Uber, TaskRabbit, and Instacart provide a new level of flexibility for people to work when they want, on their own terms. Staffing Industry Analysts refers to the growing strength of the “human cloud” — labor on demand. These platforms have made it possible to envision a new way to work and hire. Add these new platforms to traditional large-scale hiring, and you have a tight labor market. It becomes even more important to connect the right talent with the right opportunities.
Despite changes in technology and tactics, some things always stay the same. Employees still want the best fit job for their interest and ability. Employers always want to hire great people, and to do so as quickly and cost effectively as possible. Talent is a business’s strategic advantage. Great people grow great companies — work is ultimately the product.
When great talent intersects with great employers, a chain reaction occurs.
